Farhat composing symphony on Persian Gulf

TEHRAN, Jan. 12 (MNA) -- Iranian musician Shahin Farhat is currently composing a symphony about the Persian Gulf.

“I am composing a piece inspired by the name and identity of the Persian Gulf. I would like anybody that listens to the symphony to hear the sound of the waves and to feel the coastal breeze coming in from the gulf,” he said on Wednesday.

Farhat went on to say that he is writing the symphony in four parts and plans to incorporate the musical style of southern Iran into the piece. The first two parts are to be performed by the orchestra, the third part is a recitation, and the fourth is a choral piece.

He has also been appointed head of the classical music research section of the 20th Fajr International Music Festival.

The research section of this year’s festival will study Iranian regional, classical, pop, and traditional music.

The research section will also review how and when European classical music found its way to Iran, the history of the establishment of symphony orchestras in Iran, the popularity of European classical music in Iran, the strategies that need to be implemented to develop European classical music across the nation, and the situation of the study of European classical music in Iran, he said in conclusion.

The 20th Fajr International Music Festival will be held from January 31 to February 10.
